REAF 2023 Ethos

The City of Karratha acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land we live and work, the Ngarluma People, and recognises their continuing connection to country, waterways and community. We pay our respect to all Elders, past, present and emerging.

Red Earth Arts Festival 2023 (REAF) is a multi-venue, marine art themed interactive 4-day journey that will transcend the town of Karratha and its surrounding communities of Dampier, Roebourne, Wickham, and Point Samson to an underwater world of immersive entertainment and creative experiences. Dive deep with us from 4-7 May 2023.

The City of Karratha is now in its thirteenth year of event delivery of the annual REAF Festival which is located on Ngarluma Country (1152km from Perth) and is home to the Dampier Archipelago and the 42 islands and islets that sit within it. Here you will find some of richest areas of marine biodiversity known in Western Australia, with coral reefs, sponge gardens, seagrass and more than 650 fish species. Inspired deeply by the Sunkissed coast, the City invite you to take a to dive deep into a weekend that debuts the community cultural performance funded by Festival Australia.  Over the four days you’ll witness never to be seen again world class performances from musicians from around the state, visual art activations & exhibitions, artists in residence programs with public participation components, professional and youth theatre productions, on location beach dance programs, cabaret acts, literature readings and storytelling. With all this ore-some fun that sits on the end of the Pilbara Hamersley Ranges, the festivals core purpose and dedication to community by:

  • Improving wellbeing
  • Encouraging community engagement & social cohesion
